Statistics for Mission – The Results!

With thanks to the many Churchwardens, clergy, administrators and others who took valuable time to complete the Statistics for Mission returns, for the first time this year we have produced a summary of these returns.

It’s a story of what God is doing across the county and city, with details of growth (and decline) specific to Deaneries, Mission Partnerships, rural, town and city, occasional offices and the like.  Some of the results will positively surprise, but many will also challenge us in mission.

To download the summary (or even all the raw returns data so you can undertake your own analysis) go to: http://sbg.dioceseofleicester.com/?p=379

Statistics for Mission: Some still outstanding

Many thanks to all the Churchwardens who have returned the Statistics for Mission forms. The information will prove very helpful in shaping how mission is resourced and encouraged across county & city (one initial headline you can read in the new edition of Shaped by God News). However, 15% of churches have still not returned their form. We are in the final stages of collating the data and so please can the remaining forms be returned in the next 7-10 days so the information used will be as accurate for your worshipping community as possible. If this isn’t possible please contact barry.hill@leccofe.org

Statistics for Mission – A reminder

Many thanks indeed to all those Churchwardens who have returned the Statistics for Mission part of the Archdeacons Articles of Enquiry.  As I’ve been inputting the information and reading the forms, the detail you have provided has proved very helpful in shaping the resources we offer in encouraging and resourcing mission.  If you haven’t yet returned the form, please can I encourage you to do so as soon as possible (the deadline was 21st April).  The form is a mandatory part of the Articles of Enquiry (which is a requirement upon Churchwardens to complete) but, far more importantly, the information on them plays a big part in shaping how the diocese centrally serves and resources parishes – and in sharing together our story of what God is doing amongst us.  Please can it, therefore, be completed and returned as soon as possible, but ideally within the next ten days.

If you have any questions please let me know.  Also, in this first year of collating all the data needed by several sources into a single form, if you have any suggestions for improvements for next year I’m always keen to hear them.  Once the information is all received and input I will send a link for further information for those interested.  I look forward to hearing from you.  All the very best, in Christ, Barry (barry.hill@leccofe.org)

A reminder to all clergy that this year’s clergy study day is a week on Tuesday (25th May) at Emmanuel Church, Loughborough (LE11 3NW) where we will be welcoming the national Weddings Project team to help us reflect on how we might continue to build on weddings as a key mission opportunity. Coffee and pastries are from 9:40am with the day starting promptly at 10am. It finishes at 4pm and a hot lunch is provided. Car parking is available in the two Emmanuel car parks (on the road parking is for a limited period so please check the signs). Please continue to hold this important day together in your prayers.

White Paper on Fresh Expressions of Church

Over recent months, a ‘White Paper’ has been produced on the future of Fresh Expressions of Church across the diocese. The paper discusses what our vision of Fresh Expressions might be and how we might work towards it in a way which is properly resourced and sustainable. It was considered by Bishop’s Staff a few weeks ago, who were broadly very supportive of the papers contents. It is now being made available to anyone who would like to read more for thoughts, encouragements, critiques and questions. The hope being to amend in line with the weight of feedback so that it can be finalised later in the summer. To download a copy and to see how to make comments visit http://sbg.dioceseofleicester.com/?p=230 (deadline for feedback by 18th June). Please hold this important step on our journey together in your prayers. May the Spirit of God guide our every step.

If any incumbents have candidates exploring a vocation to ordained ministry, please would they let Sue Field know as soon as possible. The last date for attending a Selection Panel (BAP) prior to beginning training in 2011 will be the end of May 2011 and I usually need about a year prior to that for the discernment process and preparation. A reminder that incumbents should be the ones to make initial contact with me and not the candidates themselves. Thank you. Sue Field (sue.field1@tesco.net)
