Finance Roadshows

To all Clergy , Church Wardens, Treasurers and PCC/DCC members

Dear Colleagues,
I am very pleased to let you have details of the finance based road shows which we are offering for the third year in the autumn. They are an increasingly important way of sharing ideas and exchanging views. They have been well attended and much valued in previous years. It is extremely important for me and the diocesan finance staff to receive as much direct feedback as possible from you as we seek to make wise decisions and recommendations for the financing of the future mission and ministry of our work together.
This year I have invited Mary Lawson (Director of Education) and Dr Claire Strachan (DAC Secretary), to talk about church schools and church buildings/ faculties respectively, so the meetings may also be of interest to anyone involved in education or considering making alterations to church buildings, as well as churchwardens, clergy and treasurers. Please do feel free to ask anyone else who might be interested.
The road shows will take place as follows:
20th September 2010 – St Peter’s, Market Bosworth

27th September 2010 – St Mary’s, Lutterworth

5th October 2010 – St Mary’s Humberstone (Church Hall)

11th October 2010 – St Mary the Virgin, Bottesford
Meetings start at 7pm and finish at about 9.30pm.
Yours faithfully

Stephen Barney
Chairman, Leicester Diocesan Board of Finance

The Kerrygold Community Awards

The Kerrygold Community Awards have been set up to recognise and reward community projects in the UK, where groups of individuals have worked together to achieve something in their community.
Maybe you are trying to improve your town by creating a clean park area where families can meet and kids can play, or perhaps you are trying to help the environment by setting up a weekly litter pick. Kerrygold want to hear
about all your projects.
Throughout April, May, June and July, they will be looking for entrants to The Kerrygold Community Awards. From the beginning of June you will be able to print off your free marketing pack from the website, to help you raise
awareness of your project in the local area. Competition will be tough, so make sure you give your project the best chance of winning by using the marketing materials to drum up as much support as you can.
If you have a project that you wish to enter then visit the web site at www.kerrygoldcommunityawards.co.uk

Funding Opportunities

Reaching Communities

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has introduced a series of improvements to the Reaching Communities programme for England, designed to make it easier for groups to apply. Grants will be awarded for projects that: offer people better chances in life; build strong communities; develop improved rural and urban environments; and create healthier and more active people and communities. The improvements make the application process simpler, increase the success rates of applications and provide more support throughout the process. Proposals can be submitted at any time through web: http://www2.biglotteryfund.org.uk/prog_reaching_communities

The Archer Trust

Is a Christian trust providing grants of between £250 and £3,000 to charities and community projects that help disadvantaged people in areas of high unemployment and deprivation. They prioritise charities that make good use of volunteers. There is no application deadline or form to complete. A letter outlining the project’s main objectives along with the most recent accounts should be sent to The Secretary, The Archer Trust, Bourne House, Wadesmill, Ware, Herts, SG12 0TT.  http://www.archertrust.org.uk/?dm_i=3MG,4JQT,7H5L8,E4WN,1

Infotec 4220 Digital Copier available

A photocopier has become available. It is currently near Lutterworth at the house of a former member of the Funding Team who worked from home. It is an ‘Infotec 4220 Digital Copier’ and it needs to be moved from its present location.  The diocese purchased it in 2001 with an on-going maintenance contract, it has 81,002 copies on the clock.

The main features are as follows:-
-          Document feeder
-          Rotate sort
-          Duplex
-          Cabinet
-          2 x 500 sheet cassette
-          Override
-          Zoom
-          A4/A3
-          22 copies per min

It has been maintained by Danwood on a 1/4ly cost per copy contract that covers routine servicing & call outs but excludes spare parts out of warranty; the contract also includes provision of black toner, developer and drum.

The machine is available either with or without the maintenance contract.

If it is WITH THE MAINTENANCE CONTRACT, Danwood would move it, the diocese will come to an agreement about sharing the cost of the removal and the new owner would take on the service contract.

If it is WITHOUT THE MAINTENANCE CONTRACT, the diocese would cancel the contract and the new owner would have to arrange collection at their own expense and assume responsibility for on-going maintenance.

If you are interested in acquiring it please contact me as soon as possible.

Treasure Unlocked

Throughout our Diocese we have many Churches that contain fascinating features that would appeal to a wide range of visitors. These can range from historic stained glass to unique historical links, unusual architectural features to just simply being a very special place of repose. Sadly though, we often forget just how much value our Churches can be outside of the usual round of organised worship.

With this in mind, the Diocese is launching a pilot project to evaluate how to communicate our treasures to a wider world via modern communication tools. Funded by The Leicestershire Rural Partnership, the project will be based on a selection of 10 Churches from across the Diocese, each one offering some form of uniqueness. The aim is to have the pilot running by the end of June such that we can capitalise on the summer holiday period.

As part of the Rural Working Group, this initiative will have as its first focus Churches that are located outside of the main urban centres of the Diocese. The selection of these will take place during the month of May, and we are very happy to receive any suggestions as to specific places to include.

Seasons Of Giving

Seasons of Giving is a brand new, 4 week bible study resource from Stewardship. It takes a fresh and creative look at generous giving and biblical teaching about money and possessions.

It is a solid Bible study but also makes creative use of pictures and the imagery of the seasons.
It stimulates group discussion and sharing but also makes space for personal reflection and reading
It explores giving but also the wider context of our attitudes to money
It is rooted in the word of God but also draws on a powerful modern story of generosity.
Four 90 minute sessions and a final personal reflection will explore passages from Luke’s gospel and get people sharing easily and sensitively about the importance of generosity as a natural part of following Jesus. Good giving meets needs and changes the giver. But above all we are called to ‘excel in the grace of giving’ (2 Corinthians 8:7) because of gospel grace.

Seasons of Giving helps us go a little further on our journey towards faithful and joyful stewardship of all God has entrusted to us. Like all journeys, this is a journey best done with friends.
