Organisers of Christ in the Centre are appealing for more support for the event – to be held in the centre of Leicester on Good Friday April 2nd – in the form of financial donations and volunteers to steward the event and fill two key technical roles.
Christ in the Centre is a dramatic presentation of the true meaning of Easter, which has been staged in the middle of Leicester every year since 2003, and has now spawned a number of similar events around the country.
2010’s event will start at 10am in St Peter’s Square, HighCross, with recreations of bible scenes before the procession down High Street to Humberstone Gate for the main drama, and finish by 12 noon.
Among the key technical roles to be filled are a vision mixer and sound engineer to work alongside event director Jeff Pallett of SES Technical Services at the Humberstone Gate stage:
“These roles would suit anyone studying these skills who is familiar with the relevant equipment. We can provide extra training as needed. They will need to attend some rehearsals to familiarise themselves with the drama, and will play a crucial role in bringing the drama to the 10,000 audience on the day”, says Jeff.
The organisers are keen to recruit more stewards as well, says Canon Barry Naylor: “Volunteer stewards play an important role in managing the event. The time commitment is comparatively slight. They will need to attend one of two training sessions we hold in March and be present from about 9m on the day of the event.
While the event’s finances are much stronger than in previous years, Barry says more donations are still needed:
“We started from a far stronger position this year, but with the recession still biting many of those who have donated in the past have been unable to give as much as they previously did, so any fresh donors would be most welcome”.
Donations can be made to Christ in the Centre, c/o The Cathedral Centre, 21 St Martins, Leicester LE1 5DE. Anyone wanting more details about these roles should contact Barry Naylor (0116 248 7471) or Jonathan Wheeler (0116 220 9318).
