White Paper on Fresh Expressions of Church

Over recent months, a ‘White Paper’ has been produced on the future of Fresh Expressions of Church across the diocese. The paper discusses what our vision of Fresh Expressions might be and how we might work towards it in a way which is properly resourced and sustainable. It was considered by Bishop’s Staff a few weeks ago, who were broadly very supportive of the papers contents. It is now being made available to anyone who would like to read more for thoughts, encouragements, critiques and questions. The hope being to amend in line with the weight of feedback so that it can be finalised later in the summer. To download a copy and to see how to make comments visit http://sbg.dioceseofleicester.com/?p=230 (deadline for feedback by 18th June). Please hold this important step on our journey together in your prayers. May the Spirit of God guide our every step.

More About Presence
http://www.presence-church.com/presence-church.com

Welcome to church for people who don’t do church or go there, never did, don’t anymore, don’t think they fit in, doubters, sceptics, seekers, and the spiritually curious
Come as you are, none of us are perfect, real friendships found here
Presence is a fresh approach to church in central Leicester. We’re building a whole new social and spiritual network amongst postmodern people, young adults, people in apartments along the waterfront, DMU and the inner ring road to the west of the city centre.

Our approach is to reconnect people with the beauty, truth and goodness found in Jesus Christ without any of the baggage of traditional church and its culture. We’re simply helping people find the epic life of passion and purpose that He’s already given each of us.

We’re just a group of ordinary people building something together that we believe is special. we’re all work in progress making new friends helping each other work out how to live a life that works in this vibrant and busy city; you’re most most welcome to be part of it.

Presence is based on building relationships with each other, making church attractive and fun, being everywhere, embracing all of life, building a better world together and constantly connecting with people around us. Church is where we meet as church as church is who we are.

Lots of our time is spent making friends in bars, cafe’s and gyms, at the shops, cinema or through music, enjoying whatever the people we meet enjoy. We’re committed to helping those in the area who are in need through money management and personal debt relief, lifeskills, projects with young people and improving the local environment.

Sanctus: fresh expressions of church in the sacramental tradition

Churches of all denominations across the country are realising that they need to build new communities of faith, and new congregations, if they are going to reach those normally well off the radar of the Church.

Many have seen fresh expressions of church as the prerogative of evangelicals but a new DVD demonstrates new ways of being church are now increasingly common in the sacramental tradition.

Sanctus: fresh expressions of church in the sacramental tradition features seven stories from Visions (York), Moot (London), Critical Mass (Peterborough), Glorious (London), Contemplative Fire (nationwide), feig (Gloucester) and Blessed (Gosport). The DVD also includes a keynote address by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Coventry Cathedral.

The Bishop of Ramsbury, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, said: “This DVD is a great spur to energy and confidence as we make new inroads into networks and communities with the message of the fullness of life in Christ through the sacraments and a generous catholic approach to contextual mission and evangelism.”

The Chair of Affirming Catholicism, Revd Jonathan Clark, said: “The stories contained in this DVD should encourage and inspire all of us in parish and community ministry to discern the Spirit’s movement in our own place, and to look for the new ways in which we can tell the story of Jesus to this generation.”

Liturgical Consultant, the Very Revd Richard Giles, added: “See for yourself exciting ways in which worship can be real and total; something not just thought about, but seen, and heard, and touched and smelt – an experience that envelops all out senses.”

The Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, commented: “If you thought fresh expressions of church were only for evangelicals, then watch Archbishop Rowans’ sermon and think again.”

The DVD (approx 50min running time) is available now at £12 from Fresh Expressions (www.freshexpressions.org.uk/shop).
