Further to the Bishop’s announcement of the appointment of the Revd Jerry Taylor, as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Enderby with Lubbesthorpe and Thurlaston I can now advise that Bishop Tim will conduct his licensing service on Thursday 11 November at 7.30 pm at St John’s, Enderby.

Brian Geoghan

It is with sorrow that we announce the death of Brian Geoghan on Wednesday, 11th August. Brian was well known to many around the diocese through the time that he worked at Launde Abbey, in the training of Pastoral Assistants, through Cursillo and as a Reader. Previously he worked for the Children’s Society in this region.
Brian’s Funeral will take place at St James’ Parish Church, Newbold Verdon, on Wednesday, 1st September at 12.30 p.m.

The Bishop announces the appointment of the Revd Jerry Taylor, Assistant Curate, Parish of Chell in the Diocese of Lichfield as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Enderby with Lubbesthorpe and Thurlaston in the Guthlaxton Deanery.  Jerry hopes to move to the Diocese of Leicester in the week beginning 18 October.  

The Bishop announces the appointment of the Revd Sharon Constable, Team Vicar in the Parish of Melton Mowbray also as Adviser for Women’s Ministry with immediate effect.

Further to the Bishop’s announcement of the appointment of the Revd Alison Fuller as Priest in Charge of St Peter’s, Highfields in the Benefice of the Presentation of the Christ Team Ministry in the City of Leicester Deanery, I can now confirm that Bishop Tim will take the service of licensing on Saturday 23 October at 12 noon at St Peter’s Church, Highfields, Leicester.

The Bishop announces that Revd Amos Kasibante, former Co-ordinating Chaplain, University of Leicester has been appointed as Priest in Charge of St Cyprian’s Harehills, St Stephen and St Agnes Burmantofts in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.  He will be licensed on Tuesday 5 October 2010

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Alison Hampton, Rector of the Hexagon Benefice in the Guthlaxton Deanery is leaving parish ministry and has been appointed as Outreach Team Leader for the Christian charity “Toybox”.  Alison’s last Sunday service will be on the 3 October.

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Michael Dunk, House for Duty in the Benefice of Shepshed and Oaks in Charnwood will be leaving the Diocese with effect from 15 October 2010.

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Martin Dale, Priest in Charge of the Upper Wreake Benefice (Frisby, Hoby, Rotherby, Ragdale, Brooksby, Kirby Bellars has been appointed as Vicar of the East Marshland Benefice (Terrington ST John, Tilney All Saints, Tilney St Lawrence, Wiggenhall St Germans, Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalene) in the Diocese of Ely.  The announcement will be made on Sunday 11 July 2010.  Martin will be licensed at a service to be held at Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalene on 5 October 2010 at 7.30 pm.

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Stella Polashek, Associate Priest (NSM) in the Woodfield Team in the North West Leicestershire Deanery will retire with effect form 31 August 2010.

The Bishop announces the retirement of the Revd David Shaw, Team Rector of the Benefice of Broughton Astley with Croft and Stoney Stanton with effect from 9 October 2010.

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Andrew Winter, PTO Associate Minister at Holy Trinity, Hinckley in the Sparkenhoe West (Hinckley and Bosworth) Deanery is moving on 18 July 2010 to take up the chaplaincy at Ipswich School in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The Bishop is pleased to announce that the Archdeacon of Leicester will licence the Reverend Steve Delaforce, Curate NSM Woodhouse, Woodhouse Eaves, and Swithland as Assistant Curate (NSM) in the Benefice of Beaumont Leys within the City of Leicester Deanery on Sunday 31 October at 10.00am at Christ the King, Beaumont Leys, Leicester.

The Bishop announces that the Reverend Phil Hughes, Curate in the Benefice of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Breedon-on-the-Hill in the North West Leicestershire Deanery has been appointed as Vicar of Bishops Hull (0.68) and Chaplain at Somerset College (0.32) in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.  Phil anticipates leaving our Diocese towards the end of August.

John Hornsby

We have had news of the sad death of John Hornsby who trained with us as a reader and was licensed to Leire, Dunton Bassett etc in 1991.

In recent years he had spent the majority of his retirement in Axminster, Devon but had moved back to Ullesthorpe while his wife Betty has hospital treatment.

The funeral  (a private cremation) will take place on Wednesday 2nd June,  followed by a service of thanksgiving at 3pm the same day at St Peter’s, Leire.

The service will be taken by Revd Julia Hargreaves and also Father Clifford a previous incumbent who was ‘headhunted’ by John to come to Leire!

The Bishop announces the appointment of the Revd Susan Leighton, currently Team Vicar in the South Croxton Group of Parishes, as Priest in Charge of The Benefice of the Burrough Hill Parishes and The South Croxton Group of Parishes.

 

The Bishop has heard that the Revd John Garrett a former Clergyman of this Diocese has died aged 100.

John was Assistant Curate at St Mary de Castro in 1936 and then left the diocese in 1938.  He returned to St James’ in Aylestone Park in 1948 and then moved to Narborough in 1959.  John was Chaplain at Carlton Hayes Psychiatric Hospital from 1954 to 1990.  He retired in 1975 but continued to hold the Bishop’s Permission to Officiate until 1995 when he moved away. 

John was living in Folkingham, Sleaford at the time of his death.

Reader and FareShare volunteer driver MOUNTFORD David William Passed away aged 71 years on Tuesday April 6th 2010 after a brief illness. Will be sadly missed by his wife Betsy, daughter Ann-Marie and family, and his sister Jean.

The Funeral Service was held at The Parish Church of St Peter, Claybrooke Parva, on Tuesday April 20th at 1.30pm, followed by private cremation at The Heart of England Crematorium, Nuneaton. Family flowers only please but donations if wished for Food Share or St Peter’s Church, Claybrooke PCC.

 

Stephen Southorn, Reader of St Mary’s Broughton Astley, Croft & Stoney Stanton died on Sunday 18th April after many weeks of illness.
