Discovery Day for Christ in the Centre

Christ in the Centre organisers are appealing for more men to join the cast of the event, as the 2010 drama will feature a large number of male roles.

Anyone wanting to get involved in Christ in the Centre is invited to attend a “Discovery Day” being held on the morning of Saturday 31st October at Christ Church, Dumbleton Avenue, Leicester, LE3 2EG.

The day will allow anyone who wants to join the company to learn more about the event, and the huge number of acting and back-stage roles that need to be filled.

Christ in the Centre is a major open-air recreation of the Easter story that has been held in the middle of Leicester every Good Friday morning since 2003. It attracts audiences of up to 10,000 people, making it the largest such event in the country, and a major piece of Christian out-reach.

The “Discovery Day” will start at 10am and conclude with a ‘bring and share lunch’ at 1pm. It will include initial readings of the script for the 2010 event, as well as opportunities for visitors to discuss the many technical roles that need to be filled with the people organising each activity.

James Burke-Dunsmore says anyone who wants to get involved would be welcome, with new male actors being particularly sought after:

“2009 was the year that Leicestershire people really took ownership of Christ in the Centre. The event came close to being cancelled, and it was only their tremendous support that ensured it happened. They can feel rightly proud that – when Christ in the Centre most needed it  – they supported it so well.

“If you have stood among the audience and felt the intense emotions the event creates, and wanted to get more involved, this is your chance.

“We already have an excellent cast, but we do need about nine new male actors to perform the drama, which is already written and ready to start rehearsals les, to be filled, and many ‘backstage’ jobs to be done as well.

“Please don’t be dissuaded because you have little or no experience. Enthusiasm and commitment are more important than expertise, as professional guidance is on hand at all times”.
